GLANCE: Ryan and Katie

Nunica, Michigan

Today was a perfect day for a wedding.  The weather was glorious.  Two families worked together to pull off an amazing celebration on a private property where Ryan spent much of his childhood. Two artists with a passion for family and nostalgia became husband and wife today and I was lucky enough to be a part of that. Thank you, Ryan and Katie, for wearing your love on your sleeve.  May it always be so.

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” – Dr. Seuss

WEDDING: Ross and Hayden

East Grand Rapids, Michigan

Panic set in at first when the bride didn’t show up to the church on time.  Oh sure, brides and grooms are late frequently but Hayden was REALLY late.  She was sick and had been admitted to the emergency room, yep, a wedding “first.”  You would think that would have put a damper on things but let the photos speak for themselves. Hayden had such a good spirit and by the end of the night she was dancing with her new husband, Ross, and all was good with the world.  A few other things to note, I was in Heaven as I got to listen to the dreamy accents of twenty or more Australian guests. Swoon.  I also loved how Hayden and Ross wove in so many sentimental things about their special day (sharing her grandmother’s anniversary, wearing her other grandmother’s wedding ring and having the reception at Cascade Hills Country Club – – the same place her parents did.) A big thank you to Nick Tremmel who helped me shoot this wedding.  (Amazing photographer and awesome person to boot.)  Ross and Hayden, may love always surround you in SICKNESS and health.

GLANCE: Hayden and Ross wedding

I had the pleasure of photographing Hayden and Ross’s elegant wedding this past Saturday in East Grand Rapids.  Let’s just say, this was a wedding “first” when the bride spent the morning in the ER.  Yes, I’m really not joking.  Congratulations, Hayden and Ross, and may your life always be filled with surprises.

WEDDING: Jon and Becky

It was their love of botany and a rock collection on Becky’s windowsill that made these two “science people” fall in love.  So, of course, it was fitting that the two graduate students be married overlooking Lake Michigan in Manistee surrounded by the things they love.  “We both have an appreciation for the wonder of nature,” they told me.  And so, with nature as their backdrop and good friends and family at their side, Jon and Becky said, “I do.”  May your life always be filled with wonder.

GLANCE: Lee and Ali wedding

Here’s one of my favorite images from Lee and Ali’s Chicago wedding.  I was fortunate enough to second shoot alongside the talented Craig Watson.  Thanks for the opportunity, Craig, and I hope there are more chances to work together.  Lee and Ali, I wish you years of happiness. More photos to come when I catch up!

WEDDING: Scott and Becky

Even though I have my camera stuck to my nose, I can’t help but be drawn into the sweet, sacred moments that I witness during weddings.  Scott and Becky’s wedding was held on the centennial farm where Becky grew up.  She got ready for the big day in her parent’s old farmhouse among her niece and nephews who napped in nearby bedrooms.  Family and friends hustled around making the last minute preparations.  Then, Scott and Becky met privately in the barn before the ceremony started. My favorite moment of the day was when Becky pulled Scott’s hand to her heart and asked, “Can you feel how hard my heart is beating?”  When the guests witness such love, they somehow get a little sappy themselves.  A cool plane flew over the barn and the cows grazed a little closer as if guests themselves.  To end the night, Scott and and brown-eyed Becky danced to “Brown Eyed Girl.” A perfect ceremony.  A perfect setting.  A perfect couple.  Congratulations on your wedding and your new home, Becky and Scott!

ENGAGEMENT: Becky and Scott

Have I gushed over this red barn enough?! Becky grew up on the Nunica farm.  Scott grew up on Lake Michigan (his “happy place” he told me).  I love that these two respected each other enough to shoot in both locations.  Now that’s a marriage that is going to last! These engagement photos got me in the mood to edit their beautiful farm wedding that was just June 23rd.  Thank you for letting me share in your special day.
