I woke up at 2 am (with lots of strong coffee as my companion) to make the drive from Montague, Michigan to Chicago in time for a sunrise engagement shoot with Grae and Becky. Sunrise shoots are my very favorite. It’s the best light, in my opinion, but not many couples are up for looking their best so early in the morning. Even though I found the willing couple, I was met with thick fog. Not exactly what I was hoping for but after it was all said and done, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Next month I’ll be in Frankfort, Michigan photographing these two on their wedding day and no matter what weather we face, I’m guessing it will be just as fabulous.
Ashley told me when I first met her that she and Drew were friends long before they dated. She also told me that he was quiet, didn’t like to be photographed and a LOT taller than she was. Drew was a bit quiet but when he’s around Ashley, those two laugh, joke and are so right for each other. Add in their adorable puppy and Ashley’s platform heels and all was perfect.
Drew and Ashley, I can’t wait for your wedding in May! Until then, keep on laughing.
Oh, and a big shout-out to the owners of Fish Dock (the funkiest and coolest marina in Muskegon) for letting us use your place to shoot.

It was a wee bit chilly for Alissa and Josh’s engagement session this evening but all the more reason to get close and snuggle, right?! We did have a chance to be indoors at Argos Book Shop for a spell. (I think all three of us could have stayed a few more hours looking at books!) Josh and Alissa said they “do awkward well together” and, although I think the shot of them smooshed between the book stacks shows their awkward playfulness, I think they are pretty darn adorable.
Josh and Alissa, I can’t wait for your August wedding!
Engagement sessions are wonderful. It’s a celebration of love documented with a hint of anticipation for what’s to come. Oh, but Lee and Lisa upped the ante. They came straight from the doctor’s office with news that they were having a baby boy. Yep. I got to photograph that…a pure joy, excitement and overwhelming love for what’s to come. Congratulations, Lee and Lisa, and may you always savor the feeling you had on this day.

Birth. Graduation. Wedding. Engagement. So blessed to be photographing such happy occasions!
When Becky told me that she and Scott were getting married on her parent’s centennial farm in an old red barn, well, you know I was excited! This past Sunday, I got to visit the farm (it was even better than I expected!) and “practice” while I shot their engagement photos. Here’s one of my favorites from Lake Michigan…you’ll have to wait to see the barn : ) Looking forward to June 23rd…this wedding is going to be amazing!
